Kevin Joseph Farrell, born in Dublin, Ireland, was a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, when he appointed by Pope John Paul II as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington in 2001. In March 2007, Bishop Farrell was appointed Bishop of Dallas, Texas.
Within the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, he oversaw the Migration and Refugee Services Department and was very involved with Evangelization, Social Justice, Education and Institutional Development.
On August 17, 2016, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Farrell Prefect of the newly established Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals on November 19, 2016 and now works closely with Pope Francis, overseeing the Church’s relations with Laity, Family, Life and Youth.
Cardinal Farrell is directly responsible for World Youth Days and is one of the leaders of the upcoming 2018 Synod of Bishops on “Young people, faith and vocational discernment.” He is the highest ranking American clergyman serving in the Vatican Curia. His older brother, Brian, is also a Bishop, serving in the Vatican Curia as Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
This exclusive interview took place in the Salt and Light Broadcast Centre on October 11, 2017 during Cardinal Farrell's visit to Toronto.
